Our Community

It has been a long held philosophy of Federal Group that in order to have sustainable businesses you must be an active contributor to the communities in which you live and work.

Federal Group is a major supporter of sport, the arts and the local community sectors in the areas in which it operates. This support ranges from major investments through to smaller and more localised assistance.

Support is provided through direct funding, sponsorships and in-kind support.

Dress for Success

Federal Group proudly supports Dress for Success Hobart - an organisation that helps to empower women to achieve the economic success they deserve. They do this by providing appropriate clothing and styling advice for interviews and returning to work. They also offer a network of support including CV and resume advice, job application and interview tips and career support workshops.

When Federal Group first partnered with Dress for Success Hobart in 2017, we added a permanent clothing donation drop off service at The Henry Jones Art Hotel. During covid, Dress for Success needed to pivot to a new business model, so we assisted by hosting a month-long clothing donation drive and clothes sorting session with Federal Group’s Women in Leadership team members. Over time, our partnership has also grown to include hosting Dress for Success’ signature sale event, 'Bubbles and Bargains.'

Tasmanian Leaders

It has been Federal Group’s privilege for more than 65 years to support Tasmanians in starting, changing or growing their careers, and we recognise the value and importance of quality training and development on this journey. For this reason, we have partnered with the Tasmanian Leaders organisation to deliver their Tourism and Hospitality I-LEAD (Industry Leadership Expertise and Development) program.

Starting in 2021, this eight-week program aims to build resilience, create connections and share knowledge about tackling industry challenges. The weekly schedule allows participants to apply their learnings between sessions, including implementing new behavioural choices while testing their previously held assumptions. We’re pleased to have been able to support a number of our own employees through the program and to make this development opportunity more accessible for our industry peers.

Crime Stoppers

Sometimes an anonymous tip-off is all it takes to solve a crime. However, encouraging people to speak up when they see (or know) something can be a challenge.

This is why Federal Group has maintained a partnership with the Crime Stoppers organisation for more than 25 years. We routinely assist Crime Stoppers Tasmania by rolling out posters, coasters and table talkers in our Vantage hotels and bottleshops to encourage patrons to make an anonymous report when they see something suspicious in the community.

Safer communities benefit everyone, and as many of our hotels are key social hubs, we believe it is our duty to help share this message.

Variety Tasmania and Variety TasBash

Federal Group has also been a passionate supporter of Variety: The Children’s Charity in Tasmania since 1993. We do this by assisting them to deliver programs and grants to sick or disadvantaged children and holding events like the 'Variety of Gins,' and the annual 'Variety of Chefs' gala dinner, led by Executive Chef Andre Kropp.

Federal Group is also the naming rights sponsor of TasBash, a novelty car race involving some of the whackiest cars you've ever seen hit the road. Each year this procession of vehicles stops off to visit the many schools and kids who have benefited from Variety’s work. In 2021, Wrest Point’s unmissable pink Mercedes, the 'Regines Roller,' made her debut and continues to raise additional funds in support of Variety each year.

Beacon

As the state’s largest private Tourism and Hospitality employer, we are proud to partner with the Beacon Foundation to help deliver work readiness programs to Tasmanian students.

Federal Group have been supporting the Beacon Foundation since 2015, following the successful completion of a Hospitality Industry pilot program with Country Club Tasmania. This organisation provides Launceston students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, often resulting in fulltime employment.

Federal Group now hosts school groups at Country Club, The Henry Jones Art Hotel, MACq 01 Hotel and Wrest Point, and our team members have visited schools across the state to share their career stories and inspire the next generation.
